Your files are private. Images are processed in memory and never written to permanent storage. All temporary files are deleted immediately after the watermarked image is returned.
💡 Watermark Tips
🎨
30–50% opacity is the sweet spot — visible enough to deter theft, subtle enough not to ruin the image.
📐
Bottom-right corner is the most common placement. It's easy to see but doesn't distract from the main subject.
🖼️
PNG logos with transparent backgrounds give the cleanest result. Use a white or light-coloured logo on dark images and vice versa.
🔄
Tiled watermarks are much harder to remove than single-corner marks — ideal for proofs and previews sent to clients.
📝
45° diagonal rotation with a tiled pattern is the most tamper-resistant text watermark style.

Why Watermark Your Images?

A watermark is a visible overlay — usually your name, logo, or copyright notice — embedded into an image to establish ownership and deter unauthorised reuse. Whether you're a photographer protecting your portfolio, a designer sending proofs to clients, or a business protecting product photos, watermarks are your first line of defence against image theft.

This tool applies watermarks entirely on the server using PHP's GD library. Your original image and the watermarked output are never written to disk permanently — they exist only in memory for the duration of the request, then are discarded.

Text vs. Logo Watermarks

Text Watermarks

  • Quick to set up — just type your name or copyright notice.
  • Works great with diagonal rotation at 45° for anti-removal tiling.
  • Colour and opacity are fully adjustable — white at 40% opacity is the classic choice for light backgrounds.

Logo / Image Watermarks

  • Upload a PNG with a transparent background for the cleanest result.
  • Scale the logo relative to the base image width (5%–80%).
  • Ideal for professional photographers and brands who want consistent logo placement.

Frequently Asked Questions

For JPEG output, a small amount of compression is applied (default quality 90/100). Choosing PNG output preserves every pixel losslessly. WEBP at quality 90 is typically smaller than JPEG at the same quality with no visible difference. For the highest fidelity, choose PNG — especially for images that already contain text or sharp edges.
Yes. When you upload a PNG and choose PNG as the output format, the alpha channel (transparency) of the original is preserved. The watermark is composited on top while keeping the background transparent. If you choose JPEG output, transparency will be flattened to white.
Enable the "Tile / repeat" option to cover the entire image with a repeated pattern. Combine this with a 45° diagonal rotation. A tiled watermark at 30–50% opacity makes it virtually impossible to remove without destroying the underlying image. For proofs, place the watermark directly over the main subject rather than a corner.
The tool accepts images up to 25 MB. Very large images (e.g. 50+ megapixels) may time out depending on server memory limits. For very high-resolution images, consider downsizing first using a tool like Photoshop or GIMP, watermarking, then re-exporting.
Watermarks themselves don't directly impact SEO. However, using properly compressed output (JPEG 85–90 or WEBP) keeps file sizes small, which helps page load speed — an indirect SEO factor. Make sure to add descriptive alt text to your images regardless of watermarking.
